There were some amazing talents who performed at Woodstock, who did not catch the limelight or get into either of the Woodstock films, or any of the records either. Here is singer songwriter and folk singer Bert Sommer, who was third to perform on the Friday night before the first of the big weekend thunderstorms. He was the only performer to receive a standing ovation, and he received it after performing this Paul Simon classic. Amongst other songs that he wrote, was we’re an American band, which was written about his experiences at Woodstock, and became a huge hit for Grand Funk, he also had a short acting career, developing the mane character in Hair when it first came out. He died in the 1990’s This worth listening to (it appears there is no footage of any of his set at Woodstock) and has some wonderful visuals of Woodstock to go with it. Thanks to YouTube and Lollocea.
