George Bizet, Carmen, the Habanera from act 1.

This afternoon, Genevieve and I went to see another Opera in the Live in HD series from the Met. This time it was a very stirring performance of of Bizet’s Carmen, full of rousing music, taken from the various Spanish styles such as Habanera,  and Segedias. It reminded me of seeing the wonderful film of this opera made quite a few years ago with Julia Migenes Johnson playing a very believable Carmen, today we saw an equally great performance by the Georgian soprano Anita Rachvelishvili, all the leading singers were originally from Eastern European countries, and the conductor was from Spain.
