Self portrait in G.

Nina Simone’s heart felt blues

plays in the crease of my imagination,

as turmoil slowly takes over

the edge of my being,

where sleep weighs heavy,

the music catches the fire

of my feelings

thinking of all the friendships,

the muggings and near muggings,

and the parts of me I have lost

en route to me here,  reading blogs,

writing answers, and listen to the

magic voice of Nina Simone.

    • Yes I would love to see the Biopic, and new she had a very hard life. I love her music, with its intricacies in the accompaniment, with interesting spaces and intervals, but most of all that voice. i was listening to a compilation of her music called Release, and the poem, just seemed to write itself, in fact it was choosing the title that took the time! Thanks for the compliment, best wishes and blessings, Charles.

    • Thanks Cindy, I love Nina Simone, and glad you liked the poem; I was listening to a compilation of her music, called Release, and the poem just seemed to write itself, it was deciding on the tile that took a long time. I am enjoying your blog too, and the photo’s of the Portuguese tiling work were absolutely stunning. Best wishes and blessings, Charles.

    • Yes I love her recordings, and was listening to a compilation of her recordings called Released., and in my dreamy state the poem sort of wrote itself. The title took longer to decide on, than it did to write the poem! Thanks for the comment, best wishes and blessings, Charles.
